President Joe Biden has responded to former President Donald Trump’s selection of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate after the announcement was made Monday evening at the start of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wis.
His campaign dropped an ad on X that said, “Protect Democracy,” and “Defeat Trump-Vance” just a day after Biden called for lowering the national temperature following the assassination attempt on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pa.
“While we may disagree, we are not enemies,” Biden told the nation Sunday evening, a day after the attack. “The political rhetoric in this country has gotten very heated. It’s time to cool it down. And we all have a responsibility to do that.”
Jen O’Mally Dillon, Biden’s campaign manager, also added some more inflammatory language of the kind Trump supporters say could have contributed to the assassination attempt.
