President Biden sat down in a lovefest interview with CBS News’ Bob Costa that aired on Sunday and spoke about why he dropped out of the presidential race, essentially admitting that he was overthrown.
After saying his “Democratic colleagues” feared he would hurt the party down the ballot, he named only one of these colleagues: Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).
“The polls we had showed that it was a neck-and-neck race, it would have been down to the wire,” the lame-duck president replied.
“But what happened was, a number of my Democratic colleagues in the House and Senate thought that I was gonna hurt them in the races. And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic,” he continued. “And I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic, you’d be interviewing me about why did Nancy Pelosi say, why did — and I thought it’d be a real distraction.”
