President Donald Trump took to Twitter to respond to Vice President Mike Pence who announced he can’t block Congress from certifying Electoral College results.
“Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!” Trump tweeted.
Earlier on Wednesday, Vice President Mike Pence wrote a letter saying that he doesn’t have unilateral power to block congressional certification of Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
“I do not believe that the founders of our country intended to invest the vice president with the unilateral authority to decide which electoral votes should be counted during the joint session of Congress,” Pence said in the letter.
“I took an oath to to support and defend the constitution,” he said.
Pence’s letter rebuffs appeals from President Trump to intercede on his behalf.
President Trump on Wednesday during his speech in DC repeatedly called on Vice President Mike Pence to due his duty and defer the certification of Biden votes in contested states back to the state legislatures.
