On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump dialed into a private RNC member breakfast in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was greeted by calls of “We love you!”.
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel put the President on speakerphone and was enthusiastically received, according to Washington Examiner.
Donald Trump briefly said hello to the assembled members and added that he was very sorry to miss the event, where he was originally expected to deliver longer remarks.
“People love the president. This is the president’s party. He will continue to play an oversize role with his influence up and down the ballot,” Florida Republican Party Chairman Joe Gruters told the Washington Examiner.
“There’s a lot of tension right now,” but “give it time and everything will work itself out,” Gruters said of the chaos that erupted Wednesday as lawmakers moved to certify the results of the presidential election.
The news was first reported by the Washington Post. Republicans and party officials who were present told the Post that “members still overwhelmingly support him.”
